Nepal – the land of my awe-inspiring dream trail!

Exhilarating, Uplifting, Mighty, Scenic, Mysterious, Overwhelming, daunting, Intoxicating and Crazy!

These are my exact thoughts the moment I begin to think about my next adventure into the mountains. It feels like I am on the precipice of unravelling some wonderful trails in the woods and that makes my heart go racing. This is what defines my love for exploring the trails untraded and treks mapped by humans equally.

The longing to witness the mighty Himalayas and sensing the calm spanning the valleys is what makes the trekking trips highly addictive for me. The constant wanderlust. And nonetheless, the soul-stirring spontaneity. That is what mountains do to me!

I can’t forget to take the ultimate travel plunge for completing the Annapurna Base Circuit for the first time in 2014. It was a one-way trip though but to me, it was like finding a treasure kept away from me for so long. Starting from the well-paved roads of Kathmandu and Pokhara to the rugged terrains of Jomsom and finally to the cold desert of Mustang till Muktinath, it was unnerving at every step.

I remember each detail of the trip vividly, whether it was the trek to the hidden gem of Mustang, Dhumba Lake or wandering through the orchards of Jomsom and searching for fossils in the riverbed of Kali Gandaki river. I think I got the best souvenir of my life from Jomsom, some 150 million years old Shaligram or fossil ammonites. This is my best find so far!

My soul still yearns to go to Nepal and complete the other end of ABC (Annapurna Base Circuit) trek. I remember my trek to Lubra village, the last Bon village in Mustang region of Nepal, totally oblivious of the modern technological innovations! My ears still echo the quiet like no other, native to that quaint village and the unforgettable hospitality of its people. Especially I wish to go back and meditate in those ‘sky caves’ around the Lubra village if given a chance.

And who can forget the food and ‘Thakali thali’ of Nepal full of palatable comfort food? I don’t know if it is the smell of mountain air or the sheer spontaneity that fills my heart but my heart pounds with joy when I think about all the experiences I will come across being into the wild. Travel is a force that surpasses every border, religion, custom and aversion.

Every time I look back at the pictures of snow clad peaks, the only thing that resonates inside is “The Mountains are calling!” And I answer to that call with a resounding yes to go on my dream trail!
